Youth Theatre Orchestra

Program Overview

The Youth Orchestra members need to have a solid technical ability on their chosen instrument(s), but more importantly, they need to be self motivated. They are required to work through high level music designed to be played as accompaniment for a musical theatre show.

Successful participants must be attentive during rehearsals as well as put in the required practice time between scheduled rehearsals.

The instrument requirements are unique for every musical. For the 2025 / 2026 season, we are looking for the following instruments:

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are scheduled for Saturday mornings from 8:45 to 12 noon. Due to conflicts at the theatre, there will be the occasional Sunday morning rehearsal.

Attendance is expected at all rehearsals. If participants need to miss rehearsal due to a pre-existing commitment advanced notice is required. Absences due to sickness, as much advanced notice as possible is required.

Closer to the production performances, longer and/or additional rehearsals will be added to rehearse with the cast. All participants will also have some weeknight dress rehearsals in the weeks leading up to opening night.  The program has strict attendance policies for the rehearsal period in the weeks immediately prior to the opening of the show. You must be able to commit to the rehearsal schedule. Attendance for these and all show dates is mandatory.

Workshops

Workshops this year will revolve around the selected musical, both specific to the music and to the show in general.

We will also bring in local professional musicians to assist the YO members in learning and playing the score.

Program Fee

There is no fee to audition. If the applicant is successful, there will be a fee for the program. The fee for this year has not been set. For reference, the fee for last year's program was $350.

The registration fee covers the workshops and materials needed for the 2025/26 year and will include a mandatory $20 OLT membership fee for one youth. More information regarding payment options and details will be sent upon acceptance.

Partial or full financial assistance may be offered to successful applicants who complete and submit the financial assistance form. For inquiries, please email YouthOrchestra@OshawaLittleTheatre.com.
